“The House on the Border” by Mrožek was written in 1967, and is an important text for world dramaturgy. This story, in a witty, grotesque and sarcastic way, depicts the time in which we live today, divided and separated from those who, not understanding the mentality of ordinary people, set a border that passes through the very house of a family and determine what they will eat, where they will drink and what they will dream of. Starting from this absurd premise, the play we made speaks about our bitter reality and the absurdities that we call our reality today, and in a grotesque way, it speaks about the world we live in and where this madness that is determined for us from above is headed.
An excellent illustration of the extent to which we are capable of humiliating ourselves by blindly obeying the meaningless bureaucratic norms of the “new” world — a world that seeks to turn us into pretentious gentlemen.
