Mother Courage comes, selling boots, gas masks, blood-steaming fighting spirit, tears and religious madness. She is the hyena of the battlefields, the uncrowned queen of war capitalism. Directed by Dejan Projkovski, Brecht’s timeless anti-war story is a sincere, touching family story about how war devours its children, as well as how business must go on forever. Here comes Mother Courage! Come closer!
There is no need to explain why, today, a play is made about war as commerce, about the people who consent to war. Not just about war as commerce, but about us, the ordinary people, who go along with it, confront it, and believe that it must be that way.
