The Tin Drum by Günter Grass is one of the most significant novels of XX century which pushed against the boundaries of literary tradition. In 1979 Volker Schlöndorff directed the famous film of the same name telling the story of Oskar Matzerath, a thirty year old psychiatric patient who, when he was three years old and in the days before the rise of Nazism and the beginning of World War II, decided to stop growing. As a form protest against the world of adults, Oskar offers his comments on the historical events from a child’s point of view, painting a picture of a world heading for self-destruction.
